Pursuing a Professional Career in Photography

What to Know Before You Pursue a Photography Career

We can bet that many people might have scoffed at the idea of you pursuing a career in photography, telling you that it is not worth it. Of course, if you have not been in someone’s shoes before or are not part of the same industry, it can be hard to understand what one goes through in their daily work life. To them, it feels like photographers are lucky because all they have to do is take pictures every day and live a carefree life.

Since many people do not consider photography as an ideal career choice, there has been much debate on the value it can bring to one’s position in the professional world. However, most people do not realize that being a photographer has several unique perks beyond being lucky enough to pursue their passion as a career.

Capturing Moments in Time

Taking pictures means you have paused a moment in time and captured it in a single image. It is a product that lasts forever and holds immense importance to those who value the subject of the photos. And being the person who made all that possible deserves credit for being able to pull it off.

Quickly Find Their True Passions

One of the best things about photography is that you do not need to settle down immediately with one type of photography. You can take your time to figure out what you need to do by looking up different types of photography work environments you feel most comfortable. As a result, this makes it easier for photographers to identify where their skills shine the most.

Clients Being Pulled Into the Vision

Most of the time, clients are more than happy to let photographers express their individuality. Plus, they chose you because they feel connected to your work and share your sense of style and vision when it comes to photography.

Sharing Your Story

As a photographer, you can share your story through photographs. They can serve as a narrative that documents crucial moments you have captured on an adventure or in someone else’s life. With these images, people can relive moments taken on essential events with which they are so connected.

Professional photographers like Lorenzo DeStefano – a renowned playwright, screenwriter, novelist, producer, and director – used photography to share his stories through photography before he ventured onto other parts of his career.

During his high school years, he worked as a location scout for the local scout commercial production companies, where he discovered his passion for photography and further explored his skills as a street photographer in Honolulu.

His most notable work is the ‘Cubanos Island Portraits,’ which has been shown many times in Cuba, NewYork, London, and many more places worldwide. And right now, it is in the Permanent Collection of MOLAA – Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California and at the University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection.

That experience allowed him to hone his skills. He started working in the U.S and U.K Theater, where he wrote fiction and non-fiction, original screenplays, etc. and furthered his expertise towards many directed network series, documentaries, and narrative films.
